Day 2: Getting to know Toronto

Around 9 AM, Thomas really wanted to go to Sorauren Park so Janne and I took him there. It’s a little park right in front of the house, where people can walk with their dog, play baseball or work out. When we got back again Sam said we had to pack or swimming suit and toiletries. As a surprise she took Janne and me to Elmwood Spa. The spa was very relaxing! There was a swimming pool, a whirlpool and even a steam cabin. We also got some very tasty smoothies. After we all took a shower and were dressed again, we got a pedicure which was very nice. When we all had pretty feet we went grocery shopping in a huge store called Loblaws. The supermarket was divided into two sections. One section had all these lines with food and drinks, just like in the Netherlands. The other section had all these little stalls where you could buy fresh vegetables, fish, pastries, cheese or even ice cream. The supermarket is build in an old ice hockey stadium. The center spot is still visible, which is something I thought is very cool. When we got home again Janne, Jane and I watched the movie of The Smurfs. Something which is different than in the Netherlands is the way they eat corn in Canada. They rub their corn with butter and eat it from the cob. It was very tasty and a nice experience!

Tomorrow Sam, Janne, Jane and Thomas will go to the cottage and I am staying at the house with my uncle. We will join them again on Friday :). In the meanwhile I will accompany my uncle to his job at Kobo where I will do my internship, starting tomorrow. Today we went to do some touring through downtown Toronto. First we took the tram to a huge mall, called Eaton Center. There were three levels and all filled with shops :) :) :). It took us about an hour and a half before we had seen all of it. My uncle also showed me some architecture like the old city hall. After that we took the tram back to their house and grabbed our bikes. We biked to Lake Ontario where Pieter went for a sail. I stayed at the shore and watched him. After dinner we went to Ed’s for the second time, which was very tasty (again)!

The money here is also a bit different. They don’t pay with Euros like in the Netherlands, but with Canadian Dollars. The bank notes all have a piece of plastic in the middle which looks very funny in my opinion.

Tomorrow will be my first day of the internship at Kobo. I am very excited and looking forward to go there and see what everyone is doing. I am also curious about what it will look like from the inside.
